Week 61: THE TIME IS FLYING!

Taken from an email to her mom.

I can´t even believe that it is already Monday again!  TIME IS FLYING. I don´t really want it to. It is so bittersweet.  I love my mission and I love the people of Chile.  It is so beautiful here especially the beaches.

I have a conference on Friday.  Can you believe my mission President will be going home in June?  He has been a wonderful President but I am sure his replacement will be great too.

I am so excited for Allie getting her Patriarchal blessing.  I am excited that I will be home when Kim and Jared have their little boy!

Can't wait to see all your faces on Mother's Day on Skype.  I miss you all so much.

LOVE YOU!

Loves (:

Week 59: BRING OTHERS TO THE TRUTH!

This week's letter from Kamryn is taken from the email from her mom.  Isn't it wonderful she is completely immersed in the work?

Dear Mom,

You have no idea how much I love this pic of me and Allie! I had no idea it existed, and I am so happy that you sent it to me (: It made my whole day (: I am going to print it off and put it on my desk.

Sweet sister's goodbye!

I really am so happy to hear that the girls are talking about going on missions. I hoped in some way that I could be an example to them.  The purpose of our life here on earth is to bring others to the truth.  To be able to return and live with God again. That is why we are here, and giving up a year and a half is SO
worth it. It has changed my whole life. I hope they go (:

But I know I couldn't have done it without all of the support of you guys. That has made ALL the difference.

Mesach is doing really well (: and even made a 30 minute comment in the gospel principles class yesterday.  This week was his birthday and we bought him a cake. (: It was the best!

We are working hard here in Placilla, and there are some really good potential investigators. We serve very dilligently and try to find those who will accept the Lord and our message.

I can't believe it is March already!   I actually come home July  29th. Is that just crazy?  Only 4 months left. I leave on the 28th, but I have an overnight flight... So I will come home the morning of the 29th (: 1 year and a half exactly!

Hoppy, Hoppy, Hoppy!

I love you mom! Thank you for everything you do.  You have changed my life. I am so happy I am serving, and I am excited to enjoy the rest of my time here (:

LOVES!

Week 58: Busy In The Work!

Another busy week in the mission field so no email this week from Kam.  I am including some excerpts from Kamryn's  email to her mom this week and some pictures.

.
"The area is super awesome. Everything is going
well here in Placilla! I can´t even believe it, but
we have changes again in two weeks. I am pretty sure
I am staying. But, I wouldn't mind, because I really
love it here. We have found some good people, and the
members are amazing. They help us SO much with
the work.

We visited with Mesach this week and took a picture with him.  I love the mission. These chileans are hilarious.

We had a conference, but I haven´t gotten any more packages
yet. Hopefully soon! They make my whole week.
I can't believe that the time is going by way too fast. Just
seems like yesterday I was in the airport crying because
I ripped my ensigns.

I want you to know i am happy (: This always has and always will
be the best decision I have ever made. The gospel makes me happy."

Week 57: Line upon line

This week has been a bittersweet experience!

We went this Sunday to have Mesach get
confirmed, but... He wasn´t home. It was definitely
a trial of faith both for me and my companion. As we
know, the baptism isn't complete without receiving the
Holy Ghost. But we had a prayer in our hearts that
we could go by after and see what happened. On the
way I was telling my companion that I was so sad
and that there was no reason for him to miss because
we had confirmed the day before that we would be there.
We passed by later that day, and we knocked on his door,
and he answered with tears in his eyes telling us how he
was so sorry and felt so sick that he couldn't move that
morning. His body is super weak, so he has a hard time
getting around. I learned a lot after that, that even though
my first instinct was to be upset, I realized that there is
always a reason behind everything. That we always need to
know WHY someone does something before we react in
a negative way. I know the Lord was really trying to teach me
that I need to have a pure love of Christ. We said a prayer
with him that he would have the strength to be able to
receive the Holy Ghost next week, and I know the Lord
will answer his prayer.

I was studying in the Doctrine and Covenants, and I came upon a scripture that I love that says:

47 He that is faithful and endureth shall overcome the world.

I know that this is true. Sometimes the answer to
our problems is so simple, yet our pride keeps us from
receiving the real happiness that we are seeking. Maybe
because it requires a little more sacrifice than we are
comfortable with, but whatever sacrifice we have to make to
stay faithful and endure, is worth it. Why? Because look
at the promise... whoever does shall "overcome the world":

I know this church is true. Even though it is not always easy,
it is ALWAYS worth it.

Week 56: I'M BACK!

For starters I am going to repent for not writing lately and get back on track with what has been happening here in the hood.

First off, I have a new companion, and she is the best. We know each other from the MTC here in Santiago, and now we are companions. We are working well together, and she is helping me become the type of missionary that I have always wanted to be. She is the best!

This week one of our investigators was baptized! It was a long journey, but it happened and it was a complete miracle. I learned that really faith in the Lord and His will and His timing always brings the miracles. When we lack faith, he can´t show us miracles. It is interesting because even though faith is the first and basic principle of the gospel, we lose so many blessings because we lack it. We may be obeying the commandments, but without faith, he can´t bless us. Or at least he can´t bless us as much as he wants to. When we doubt, we hold back part of our hearts, which means we really aren´t giving ALL to him. Limited faith limits blessings, and not just blessings, but miracles.

This week we have been finding new investigators, and really been working hard every minute. As the time gets shorter and shorter I realize more and more that really there is no time to waste.

I am trying to read all the standard works before my mission is over, and even though I finished the new testament, I was studying it today and came across something that I loved:

1 Peter 2: 20-25

20 For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it
patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is
acceptable with God.

21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us,
leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he
threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being
dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

I love you all ! thank you for everything!

Week 55: TELL ME YOUR FAVORITE HYMN! (:

"I NEED to know your favorite hymn!!! I am dying to know. Please respond and tell me (:"

If you want to respond to her question, go ahead and post to my email and I will include here.  phemiawhitefield@gmail.com.  I'll go ahead and post mine.

Gma:  I have so many favorite hymns but I love "Lord, I Would Follow Thee", "Because I Have Been Given Much", and How Great Thou Art!"

You will notice that the blog hasn't had much to say and that is because Kamryn has been so much busier now that she is in a leadership position.  She has many more responsibilities and is writing weekly reports to the President.

Kamryn (with her Mission President's permission) is also getting ready to attend college shortly after she gets home from her mission.  There is a lot to get that all set up including emails and phone calls.  Amber and Kevin are helping as much as they can but a lot of has to been done my Kam.

Kamryn wants to go into Social Work and there have been many calls back and forth on getting her application in before the deadline early in March.  They have assured her application will be accepted as on time.

I am including some things from Amber's last email conversation with Hermana Watt:

"My new companion is Hermana Morris. I think the President
received last minute revelation, because I am not training.
But, I am so thankful that i am not. Hermana Morris was in my
district in the MTC. She is super awesome, and I love being her
companion. She is whipping me into shape, both physically and spiritually. She is tough, but she is teaching me everything
that the Lord wants me to know."  (picture of Sister Morris below)

Kamryn has been a trainer since she she was out only three months.  It is interesting how the Lord provides us those "Tender Mercies".

Week 53: Diligence in MIND

This week was amazing!

First, we had a ward talent show, and we sang! Let´s just say we crushed it.. AGAIN!

This week we had exchanges, and I was with an hermana from Brasil! She helped me practice my portugese. Thank goodness. Someone has to help me! She is a sweet person, and I decided that now I need to go to Brasil. Sorry mom! (;

We have changes this week, and it will be bittersweet! I love my companion, but I am so happy for her to be able to see her family (: She is amazing, and she taught me a lot!

This week we have a conference, and I will get to see my mission family again! Wahoo!

Yesterday the bishops son was eating gum off the chairs... I guess that happens in EVERY country! haha.

Mosiah 7:33!!!! READ IT

("But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him will all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure deliver you from bondage.")
